Sun Microsystems, Inc offers three certifications for the Solaris
Operating Environment:
- Sun Certified System Administrator for the Solaris Operating System (SCSA)
- Sun Certified Network Administrator for the Solaris Operating System (SCNA)
- Sun Certified Security Administrator for the Solaris Operating System (SCSecA)
Sun offers the above certifications for Solaris 10, 9 and 8.
SCSA consists of two parts (two exams), which can be taken seperately,
in no particular order and you need to pass both to get SCSA certification.
SCNA is a single exam, and SCSA certification is the prerequisite to appear for SCNA exam.
SCSecA does not have any prerequisites, but it is
recommended that you have at least six to twelve months of on-the-job
security administration experience on Solaris.
To get certified:
- Check out the exam objectives, study and practise well accordingly.
- Purchase Voucher from your local Sun Educational Services
office. You need one voucher for each exam. If you are in the
USA, call 1-800-422-8020 or (303)464-4097. If you reside outside, contact your
local
Sun Educational Services office. The voucher is valid for one year
from the date of purchase and can be used in the same country in which
it is purchased.
- Schedule your exam date, time, and location by contacting
the nearest authorized Prometric testing
center.
- Take your exam.Make sure to review the Certification Policies, before
taking the exam. You will receive results immediately following the exam. You have to wait two weeks before retaking the same exam.
- Manage your Certification progress thru CertManager. You need to assign a password
while logging the first time. It takes four weeks for your
information to appear here.

Within 30 days after successfully completing all certification
requirements, you will receive a Certification kit from Sun.If not, contact
suncert@prometric.com. Please note that as of August 1, 2003,
all Sun certifications are now based on versions and so there is no expiration date to your certification title.
The Certification kit contains:
- A Sun certified certificate with the candidate's name and certification title.
- An ID card with the candidate's name and certification title.
- A Logo Agreement form for successful Java technology certification candidates.
- A lapel pin.
